In the time period that Christopher Looby wrote his response to Fiedlers interpretation, things were very different. Sexism wasn't as apparent to everyone as it is in our age today. These ambiguous historical circumstances, including racism and sexism changed before The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, was actually published in 1885. As everyone is already aware, the thought processes vary from person to person. Including morals and the way that we were raised. Your own person experiences and stories you've heard influence the decisions you make and the way you go about living life. Someone in today's age cannot impose the thought or issues in yesterday;s age. As we can see from the text, Fiedlers claim is overdoing it. She tried to make something of the fact that Huck and Jim were as close of friends as they were. The fact is that they were not gay, or promoting any affectionate complexity toward one another, as Looby explains.

I have some questions, but I'll save most of them for the essay feedback because I know this is just a brief response. I didn't read Looby's or Fiedler's essays. When were they written? And are you doing topic #1?
I totally agree with you on your point of view towards Fiedler's essay. I have yet to read Looby's. But the fact that you bring up the difference of views/morals in our time periods is really good.
Good job citing the essays, it proves that you efficiently did research. I agree with your point, it is a stretch to say Jim and Huck had a homosexual relationship
I agree with you! For the portion of your essay when you have to address the oposing opinion I have some suggestions for things to take into accout. I would address the possiblity that Huck and Jim had romantic relations. Also address the possiblity that the king and duke may have contributed to the gay realations, last there is the possiblity that Tom Sawyer and Huck have had gay relations in this book and in the previous book adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Good Luck

Also, there are a couple of times that Huck dressed up like a girl. He did it for the first time right before they left the island, right? He pretended to be "Sarah Mary Williams" and the lady caught him.
